I saw this place a while back, in fact I think I might have told you. [livejournal.com profile] snarfywarning, this one's for you!

This Mexican place is just down the street, and makes me think of you every time I see it. :)

My interview on Wednesday went well and I got an email about another job prospect, so hopefully I'm on the way to being here permanently.

The promised snowstorm made it to Seattle last week, well slightly. Where I was there was about 1/2", although other parts of the city and surrounding areas got more. But even early Sunday morning the roads were ok. Today it is just cold and sunny and beautiful, almost in a Boston sort of way.

I'm taking the train down to Oregon to start the holiday festivities with the family. It seems that Oregon got hit with the snow much worse than Seattle did, and there's still snow, including about 3" of iced over stuff on the roads.

My Seattle trip was more successful this time, I got to see a few friends and do a lot of fun activities and meet some newer friends as well. I was killing time in Weaving Works while hanging out in the U-district and ran into a girl I know from sock camp two years ago, which was unexpected but lovely. She was one of my favorite people from camp, and didn't make it this year and probably won't make next year either.

Then while wandering downtown with my aunt yesterday I ran into a fellow Terry 10 inhabitant from the college days. I haven't seen or spoken to her in ages, but it was nice to get a chance to say hi.

And my aunt and I rode the carousel! I didn't get my favorite horse (black with a blue mane and tail) because some little 2 year old stole it out from under me ;) but I got to ride a purple horse so it was ok.

All in all a good trip up, and hopefully one I won't be having to make as a "trip" very soon.

I *think* I'll be around this week for a bit (probably starting Monday night or Tuesday). Still working out details on exactly when and where, but if you want to hang out let me know. :)
stariel25: (rock out)
Yesterday was my first real day back in Seattle and I spent it napping to recover from my road trip-lag and going to Bumbershoot with a bunch of MI kids I went to school with. We wandered around a bit, saw a few minutes of These Arms Are Snakes and decided they weren't for us, and saw The Black Keys and Stone Temple Pilots. The STP show was amazing and I was really excited to get to see them for the first time.

Bumbershoot reminded me of how much I love Seattle - the number of freaky people walking around and the number of Tool and Alice In Chains shirts I saw... I am most definitely home. The sun came out for a bit too and the weather was pretty perfect - not too hot and not too cold.

And now I'm here and thinking about getting started with the job hunting, because I need a job and an apartment in Seattle before I can be here all the time and I really want to be here starting now. Starting yesterday.

I just booked my flight for my birthday and sock camp. :D

I'll be in Seattle on my actual birthday (April 11) and would love to get together with you Seattle people for dinner or something.

So who wants to come?
stariel25: (nemo)
My goth name is...

Glitter Girl

Um... that's not very goth! (from www.deadname.com)

When I use another name that isn't actually mine I get Heartless ArchAngel - much better.

So, I have tickets to Seattle for Thanksgiving and Christmas-New Year time. Let me know if/when you want to see me. :)

Something about Rachel and Thursdays and being social...

Tonight I went to a vegetarian potluck party at Rachel's - it was interesting as usual. There were yummy veggie Sloppy Joe's and enchiladas, I brought cookies - a bit of a cop out but I was coming from work.

And, as always, there was good and interesting company. I met lots of new people, chatted it up, and generally enjoyed myself a lot. On the way home I rode the T partway with one of Rachel's classmates who attended the party and chatted with him, and then on the ride from downtown to my neighborhood I talked to a group of people going to a Minus The Bear concert at the Middle East. They tried to convince me to come too, but I had to get home and get to bed. (What? I'm going to bed soon, I promise!)

It all started because the guy was wearing a I (heart) Seattle shirt and I said I loved Seattle too, then he started talking to me about this band, which is apparently sort of indie-prog from Seattle. I'm going to check them out. The people I met weren't actually from Seattle or anything, he just loved it because he understood the inherent awesomeness of my home city. ;)

And speaking of checking out music, I've been trying to listen to some new music lately. New being not necessarily *new* but more things-I-don't-listen-to-yet. I know there are quite a few bands out there that are similar to bands that I like, so I've been making an effort to check them out too.

Muse, for example, sounds like the result of a brief love affair between Radiohead and Dredg with a little bit of rebellion against the parents thrown in there for spice.

I'm listening to Diecast because Betsy knows them (or at least the singer) and promises we will go see them if/when they come here.

And I'm going back to the basics with some Alice in Chains. Because ever since Seasonal Temptress covered Man In A Box back on MI I've been in love with that song in particular - but really as a Seattle grunge band they deserve a little more of my time.

And then there's this 27 album that I had but somehow didn't make the mp3s between one of the computer snafus and now it's back.

Phew!

Guess who's coming to Seattle for her birthday.

So... did you guess? It's me!

Well, actually, I'm coming to Seattle a couple days before the b-day and then going to SOCK CAMP on my birthday, provided they email back and take my money. :) I know, I am a total dork, and I'm proud of it.

Tonight I met up with [livejournal.com profile] ordinarydude and we went to the Panama Hotel, a little coffee/tea shop in the International District. I've been there once before, last year around this time. And last year around this time is also the last time I saw him, although it wasn't at the Panama Hotel (confused yet?)

We had herbal masala chai which was yummy and I had a donut from Top Pot or whatever it's called. And they have the most awesome bathroom! I didn't remember how cool it was from last time.

We sat and chatted about life and school and the past and evil scientists taking over the world. And how [livejournal.com profile] hibrian and I should blow up the bridges to Mercer Island with our death ray and then take over and let it be covered with jungle and import some tigers. Except this is Seattle and it would be evergreen jungle. Oh well...

See, that's the kind of thing that [livejournal.com profile] ordinarydude thinks about, and it's awesome. :)

Just cuz I love you guys:

AFI on Saturday night:

I realize you can't see much, I need a camera like the lady next to me - super zoom!

Metric on Monday night:

Just got home from seeing AFI at Bumbershoot. I'll have videos up tomorrow provided they turned out well. :) While I was there I ran into [livejournal.com profile] mtvmike! It was weird because it was dark and I looked at him and thought "Is that Mike? Nah..." but then when I was leaving he said hi and it was Mike! It's been years, literally. So we had a nice little chat on our way out of the mainstage and walking down the street.

Tomorrow I'm going to see Zero7 and [livejournal.com profile] hibrian and [livejournal.com profile] halchedog, woohoo!

Photos!

As I mentioned in my earlier post, [livejournal.com profile] hibrian and I went on a mission Saturday to take pictures. My battery died almost immediately, but we went out again on Sunday morning and I got these:

I've arrived in Seattle! (Last night, actually)

I got to the airport, got through security, and then was on the phone with a friend when I heard them start to talk about someone flying to Seattle on my flight (that would be me, I was supposed to transfer in NYC.) So I walked up to the counter and the ticket agent asked if I'd mind switching to fly through Salt Lake City instead, 1st class, and arrive at about the same time. Um, of course not!

So I had a 1st class airplane adventure - I've never flown 1st class before, it was yummy!

Here's the yarn I brought with me on the trip, cuz you know, I must knit constantly.

And here's the house (in West Seattle) where I lived when I was really little.

stariel25: (mulitcolorstars)
Just got home from watching fireworks at the Space Needle with [livejournal.com profile] hibrian - something I've never done before. (OK, so we were in the car on the hill, the fireworks were at the Space Needle.)

So, instead of talking about how depressing it is, I'm just going to try to be happy. (Which, incidentally, would make a good resolution, if I wanted one.) ;)

Happy New Year to all, and may 2006 be better than 2005.

Well, it's been a good trip. Much fun was had, much favorite places were visited. I didn't get to do all the things I wanted, or see all the people I wanted, but I'll be back in a month and hopefully I can do it all again then.

[livejournal.com profile] hibrian has been my savior, providing much entertainment and companionship and all that. Far beyond the call of duty. And tonight the poor boy has to eat dinner with me again!

I'll be heading out early tomorrow morning, back to Boston which is surprisingly much warmer, to be with my cats, and my lab, and my school-knitting-girls and all that.

I miss Seattle. I don't think Boston will ever be home to me.
stariel25: (HIM)
Today [livejournal.com profile] hibrian and I went to Bamboo Garden for lunch. There was a slight complication getting there because of traffic from the Seattle marathon and ensuing madness.

After lunch we headed out to Southcenter to see Pride and Prejudice, but decided on the way to just go shopping instead. We made a quick run to Old Navy where I bought a black fleece and some socks, headed over to Borders to look for DV for Brian, which they didn't have, and spent some time getting creative in Jo Ann's while looking at furry yarn.

We headed over to Half Price Books where I found Lemony Snicket #10 and #11 (no DV there either) and then to Barnes and Noble. Guess what book they didn't have. ;)

We headed over to the mall. Outside the mall Eulogy came on The End, which is having a no repeat weekend. Otherwise they never would have played a song with such a long intro, but I guess they're getting desperate! Sad though, because they have an entire day to go - wpnder what gems will be coming on tomorrow...

I decided against a sweatshirt at Express Men. It was adorable - and Brian has one already, but I just couldn't bring myself to spend the money. At Hot Topic I would have bought a H.I.M. shirt, but all they had was Youth Large and adult Large, neither of which are my size.

After the mall we went to get Bubble Tea, but sadly Yunnie is closed on Sundays (duh!) so we couldn't. :( Instead we went to yet another Barnes and Noble, which also didn't have DV but did have other fun things. We browsed books and giggled for about an hour!

Now I'm back at my aunt and uncle's house, and looking forward to my last day in Seattle tomorrow.

Here's Melanie and me at the Volunteer Park greenhouse.

Yesterday we went to the greenhouse, went to Weaving Works and got our U-district fix, and then headed down to U-Village. We had some coffee at Starbucks with Zoe standing guard, and then we took turns holding Zoe while we alternately checked out stores.

Here's [livejournal.com profile] meli88 with the wild-eyed Zoe.

Meli is wearing her birthday present rainbow scarf knit by yours truly.
